Merz Wins 95.33% of Votes at Party Conference

Friedrich Merz has been elected as the new leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in Germany.

Merz, a prominent businessman and former politician, received 95.33% of the votes at the party's 34th federal conference held in January 2022.

He is the first non-parliamentarian to lead the CDU since Helmut Kohl in 1973.
