Sir Keir Rodney Starmer KCB KC (born 2 September 1962) is a British politician and barrister who has served as Leader of the Opposition since 2020. Starmer was born in London and attended Reigate Grammar School before studying law at the University of Leeds. He worked as a human rights lawyer before entering politics, serving as Director of Public Prosecutions from 2008 to 2013.

Rise to Leadership

Starmer was elected to Parliament in 2015 and quickly rose through the Labour Party ranks. He served as Shadow Brexit Secretary and Shadow Home Secretary before being elected Leader of the Labour Party in 2020. Since becoming leader, Starmer has overseen a period of significant change for the Labour Party, moving the party away from its left-wing policies and towards a more centrist position.

The Future

Keir Starmer is now firmly established as the next leader of the UK Labour Party, and has a challenging task ahead, with the party facing a long road to recovery after its disastrous performance in the 2019 general election.
