Cate Blanchett reveals she was paid in free sandwiches for her role in the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy.
The Australian actress, who played Galadriel in the epic fantasy series, said she was not paid well for her role but was given free sandwiches on set.
"I got paid in free sandwiches," Blanchett said on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' in 2015. "I was not paid well." Blanchett's revelation comes after Orlando Bloom, who played Legolas in the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy, said he was paid just $175,000 for his role in the first film.
It's not clear why Blanchett and Bloom were paid so little for their roles in the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy, but it's possible that they were not as well-known at the time as they are now.
Despite being paid in free sandwiches, Blanchett said she had a great experience working on the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy.
"It was an amazing experience," Blanchett said. "I loved working with Peter Jackson and the cast and crew."
